Biography

Patrick studied Music and Mathematics at the University of Birmingham and graduated with 1st class honours in 2011. Patrick now works as a freelance Musical Director, Composer and Performer in London and around the country.

 

Patrick is originally from Hitchin, Hertfordshire and during his youth played Piano and Trumpet in many countrywide ensembles which all developed his passion for music of all genres. In the latter years of school Patrick was trumpet player for a Blues Brothers tribute band who gigged together for 5 years (and has produced a number of other talented freelance musicians).

 

At university he explored many new musical styles, from contemporary classical music to musical theatre and studying confirmed his love of composition and creating new music. His piece, They Approach, was selected to be performed by the University New Music Ensemble at the Barber Institute and  after graduating he was commisioned to compose From Moors to Dales which was performed at Birmingham Conservatoire by the University Symphony Orchestra.

Patrick was a member of the Musical Theatre Society (GMTG) where he was Musical Director for the The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown which they took  to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010 to critical acclaim, as well as pianist for other productions including Sweeney Todd and West Side Story.

Patrick was also introduced to improvised comedy in Birmingham and this led to  performing on runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and now with various groups in London. 

Patrick has been MD for a number of shows since moving to London at variety of theatres including the Union theatre, King's Head Theatre, New Diorama Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, London Theatre Workshop, Greenwich Theatre and Leciester Square Theatre. He has just finished his first run as Assistant MD on the Blood Brothers UK Tour.

 

In November 2014 he composed a short opera comissioned by the City of Westminster Archive to commemorate the centenary of World War One which is to be performed at the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall and wrote new music for children's show Hurry Up Father Christmas, produced by the Oxford Playhouse.

 

Patrick regular works with Armonico Consort, an opera company based in Warwick, as a pianist and musical director for their educational projects.
